How Do You Make Morgan’s Apple Cider?
Clean and sanitise all equipment before use.
Empty the contents of the pouch into your sanitised fermenter. Add approximately 2 litres of hot water and stir thoroughly. Add 1kg of Morgan’s Ultra Blend or your chosen fermentable and continue stirring until dissolved.
Top up with cool water to a total volume of 20 litres. Once the cider is within the recommended temperature range for your selected yeast, add the yeast and ferment according to its instructions.
Only bottle or keg the cider after fermentation is complete and the specific gravity has remained stable for at least two consecutive days.
How Much Cider Does It Make?
One 1kg pouch makes approximately 20 litres of finished apple cider.
That is equivalent to approximately:
-
53 × 375ml bottles
-
40 × 500ml bottles
-
One full 19-litre Cornelius keg with a small amount remaining
Actual packaged volume may vary depending on fermentation losses and sediment.
What Does Morgan’s Apple Cider Taste Like?
Morgan’s Apple Cider produces a crisp apple flavour with a clean and naturally dry finish.
The final flavour will be affected by your chosen fermentable, yeast, fermentation temperature and conditioning time.
Can I Make the Cider Sweeter?
Yes, but the method depends on how the cider will be packaged.
For bottled cider, use only a suitable non-fermentable sweetener and carefully follow the manufacturer’s instructions. Adding fermentable sugar or apple juice before bottling can cause dangerous overcarbonation.
Kegged cider can be sweetened to taste and kept refrigerated, but care must still be taken to prevent renewed fermentation.
Can I Add Other Fruit Flavours?
Yes. A suitable brewing flavouring can be added after fermentation to create flavours such as passionfruit, mango, peach, raspberry or tropical apple cider.
Add the flavouring gradually and taste between additions. This makes it easier to achieve a balanced fruit character without overpowering the apple cider base.
