Made Specifically for the Still Spirits Air Still
The Still Spirits Air Still is designed around smaller batches than conventional home distilling systems.
Rather than buying full-size yeast, nutrient, carbon and clearing products separately, the Air Still Fermentation Kit contains the key fermentation ingredients in convenient quantities for one 8L wash.
Once fermentation and clearing are complete, the wash can be distilled using the Still Spirits Air Still or Air Still Pro.
What's Included?
Each Still Spirits Air Still Fermentation Kit contains:
- 1 × Pure Turbo Yeast – 10g
- 1 × Pure Turbo Yeast Nutrient – 78g
- 1 × Turbo Carbon – 54g
- 1 × Turbo Clear – 65g
Together these ingredients provide the fermentation, nutrition, carbon treatment and clarification required to prepare your Air Still wash.
What Else Do I Need?
The fermentation kit contains the yeast, nutrient, carbon and clearing agents.
You will also need:
- 2.4kg dextrose
- Water
- Suitable Air Still fermenter
- Hydrometer
- Sanitiser
- Still Spirits Air Still or Air Still Pro for subsequent distillation
Dextrose is not included and is sold separately.
Carbon cartridges used in the lid of the Air Still fermenter are also not included and are sold separately.
How to Make an 8L Air Still Wash
1. Clean & Sanitise
Thoroughly clean and sanitise your fermenter and brewing equipment before beginning.
If using the Still Spirits Air Still Fermenter, check the carbon cartridge located in the fermenter lid and replace it when required.
2. Add Water
Add 7.5 litres of water at approximately 30°C to your fermenter.
3. Add Dextrose
Add:
2.4kg dextrose
Stir thoroughly until completely dissolved.
4. Add Yeast & Nutrient
Add the supplied:
- Pure Turbo Yeast
- Pure Turbo Yeast Nutrient
Mix into the wash.
5. Add Turbo Carbon
Gently massage the Turbo Carbon sachet before opening.
Add the contents to the wash and stir thoroughly.
6. Ferment
Allow the wash to ferment at approximately:
18–24°C
Fermentation will typically take around 7 days, although actual fermentation time can vary with conditions.
Always confirm completion with a hydrometer rather than relying solely on time.
7. Check Final Gravity
Use a hydrometer to confirm fermentation has finished.
The wash is considered complete when the specific gravity is 0.990 or below and remains stable for two consecutive days.
8. Degas & Add Turbo Clear Part A
Once fermentation is complete, stir the wash vigorously to remove dissolved gas.
Add Turbo Clear Part A and stir thoroughly.
Allow the wash to stand for approximately 1 hour.
9. Add Turbo Clear Part B
Add Turbo Clear Part B while gently stirring.
Stop stirring once all of Part B has been added.
Avoid excessive agitation at this stage, as this can interfere with the clearing process.
Allow the wash to stand for approximately 24 hours.
Once clear, carefully transfer the wash away from the sediment and it is ready for distillation.
Why Use Turbo Carbon?
The supplied Turbo Carbon is added during fermentation.
Activated carbon helps adsorb unwanted compounds produced during fermentation, assisting in the production of a cleaner neutral wash before distillation.
This is particularly useful when the final neutral spirit will be used as the base for gin, vodka, whiskey, bourbon, rum or liqueur-style spirit flavourings.
Why Clear the Wash Before Distilling?
The included Turbo Clear helps remove suspended yeast and other fermentation material after fermentation.
Allowing the wash to settle and transferring the clear liquid away from the sediment helps ensure that you are putting a properly prepared wash into your Air Still.
Perfect for Making Neutral Spirit
Once fermented, cleared and distilled appropriately, the resulting neutral spirit provides a versatile base for your favourite spirit flavourings.
Use your neutral base with flavours such as:
- Bourbon
- Whiskey
- Rum
- Gin
- Vodka
- Tequila-style flavourings
- Schnapps
- Liqueurs
- Cream liqueurs
This makes the Air Still system an easy entry point into small-batch home spirit making.
