Still Spirits Turbo Clear Part A + B

Fast Two-Part Clearing Finings for Distilling Washes

Still Spirits Turbo Clear is a powerful two-part clearing agent designed to remove unwanted yeast cells, solids and other compounds from your fermented wash before distillation.

Turbo Clear helps produce a cleaner wash by rapidly settling suspended material to the bottom of the fermenter, allowing you to carefully siphon the cleared wash away from the sediment.

Clearing your wash before distillation helps prevent unwanted yeast and other compounds from entering the boiler, where they can contribute undesirable flavours and aromas to your finished spirit.

Works in as little as 24 hours.

Why Clearing Your Wash Matters

At the end of fermentation, a wash can contain enormous numbers of suspended yeast cells along with other fermentation compounds.

If these yeast cells and solids are transferred into the boiler, they can break down during heating and release unwanted flavours, aromas and other compounds back into the distillate.

Turbo Clear helps settle this material before distillation, allowing you to siphon the clearer wash into your boiler while leaving the sediment behind.

For the best results, always rack the cleared wash carefully to avoid disturbing the sediment.

How to Use Still Spirits Turbo Clear

Step 1 – Make Sure Fermentation is Complete

Before adding Turbo Clear, make sure your wash has completely finished fermenting.

Use a hydrometer to confirm fermentation has finished rather than relying solely on airlock activity.

Step 2 – Degas the Wash

Once fermentation is complete, stir the wash vigorously to remove dissolved carbon dioxide.

Proper degassing is important for effective clearing.

Step 3 – Add Turbo Clear Part A

Add the entire contents of Part A to the degassed wash.

Stir thoroughly to distribute it throughout the wash.

Leave the wash to stand for 1 hour.

Step 4 – Add Turbo Clear Part B

After exactly 1 hour, slowly pour Part B evenly over the surface of the wash while stirring gently enough to distribute it.

Do not stir vigorously at this stage, as this can interfere with the clearing process.

Step 5 – Allow the Wash to Clear

Leave the wash undisturbed for at least 24 hours.

During this time, unwanted yeast cells, solids and other compounds will settle towards the bottom of the fermenter.

Step 6 – Rack the Clear Wash

Once cleared, carefully siphon or rack the wash into your boiler while leaving the sediment behind.

Avoid disturbing the sediment layer during transfer.

What's in Turbo Clear?

Still Spirits Turbo Clear uses a two-stage fining process.

Part A contains a silica-based solution.

Part B contains chitosan.

The two components work together to attract and settle suspended particles from the wash.

Important: Turbo Clear contains ingredients derived from crustaceans and contains sulphites.

Ideal for Turbo Washes

Turbo Clear is particularly useful with high-performance distilling washes where large amounts of yeast, nutrients, carbon and other fermentation compounds may remain suspended after fermentation.

It can be used as the clearing stage before transferring your finished wash into your still.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is Still Spirits Turbo Clear?

Still Spirits Turbo Clear is a two-part fining and clearing agent for fermented distilling washes.

It helps remove yeast cells, solids and other unwanted compounds by settling them to the bottom of the fermenter before the wash is transferred to the still.

Why should I clear my wash before distilling?

Removing yeast and suspended material before distillation helps reduce the amount of unwanted material entering your boiler.

This can help reduce undesirable flavours and aromas and contribute to a cleaner finished spirit.

How long does Turbo Clear take?

Allow Turbo Clear to work for at least 24 hours after Part B has been added.

Do I need to degas before adding Turbo Clear?

Yes. Once fermentation is complete, the wash should be thoroughly degassed before adding Part A.

How long do I wait between Part A and Part B?

Wait 1 hour after adding Part A before adding Part B.

For best clearing performance, follow this timing closely.

Do I stir Turbo Clear?

Stir Part A thoroughly into the degassed wash.

When adding Part B, pour it slowly over the wash while stirring gently to distribute it. Avoid vigorous stirring after Part B is added.

Do I add Turbo Clear before or after fermentation?

Turbo Clear should be added after fermentation is completely finished.

How do I know fermentation has finished?

Use a hydrometer to confirm the wash has reached its expected final gravity and is stable rather than relying only on bubbling or airlock activity.

Do I distil the sediment?

No. Once the wash has cleared, carefully siphon or rack the clearer wash away from the sediment before transferring it to your boiler.

Does Turbo Clear contain animal products?

Yes. Turbo Clear contains chitosan derived from crustaceans.

It also contains sulphites.
